Local Junior FIRST® LEGO® League Teams Awarded at World Festival Expo
(SBPLI) has announced that two Long Island Junior FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO® League (Jr. FLL) teams received awards at the Jr. FLL World Festival Expo, which took place on April 22-25 at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri.
Team #21 “BRAINSTORMERS” in Bayport received the Explosive Ideas Award. This award goes to a team which has explosive ideas, an eye-catching Show-Me poster and explosive team energy. The “BRAINSTORMERS” also won the same award at the second day of the 7th Long Island Jr. FLL Expos on March 1 at Longwood High School.
Team #126 “STOBOR” in Syosset was awarded the Inquiring Minds Award. This award recognizes a team for its interest in science and enjoyment of the building process. Always looking to find a solution, this team kept morale up while creating smart solutions. “STOBOR” received the Synergy Award at the first day of the 7th Long Island Jr. FLL Expos on February 28 at Mineola High School.
This year’s challenge was THINK TANKSM, which explores where and how learning takes place. Through the course of the season, teams research a real-world theme, build a LEGO model with a motorized part and present their findings to reviewers, who analyze the presentations and determine awards for each team.
