More Than 60 Teams Take Part in 7th Annual Jr. FIRST® LEGO® League Expos
For two days, hundreds of students, parents, and volunteers convened for a day of learning, technology, and fun at this year’s Junior FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO® League (Jr. FLL) Expos. The event was held on February 28 at Mineola High School and March 1 at Longwood High School.
During the two Expo days, children ages 6-9 from 63 teams across Long Island presented their projects for this year’s challenge, THINK TANKSM, which explores where and how learning takes place. Through the course of the season, teams research a real-world theme, build a LEGO® model with a motorized part and present their findings to reviewers, who analyze the presentations and determine awards for each team.

“The Junior FIRST LEGO League gives these young children a chance to garner an interest in science and engineering at an early age,” said Rick Ramhap, Jr. FLL Event Manager, SBPLI. “Judging by the 63 Junior FLL teams participating in both Expos, more children on Long Island are showing a genuine interest in science, technology and engineering.”
